Today a close friend of mine came to me and ask me to help him save his notebook, he say the notebook cannot boot up, he got very important data in his hard Disk, I switch on his PC and saw something very familiar, DISK BOOT FAILURE, Insert System Disk,
Told him that most likely his hard disk crash, need to send in to a data recovery center for a check, I told him to keep his finger crossed. He was stunned on the approximately price that I told him and the chances. I could feel that he was indeed very troubled. I told him to wait for my news in a couple of days.
In my course of work, I have always encountered clients who are near to winding up their company or clients who are close to tears when they encounter data loss.
Digital storage has become a very important part of our lives, we store our memories, our important data, like, family photos, videos, bank statements, financial report, contact number and address and lots of other data on our Hard Disk, No one can ever predict when your hard Disk wants to call it a day. So I have always encouraged my clients to do data backup, at least the bare minimum, once every month, you can choose the frequency, and amount yourself, no fixed rules over here, depends on how you value your data, and how often you update your data.
There is a lot of programs out there for data backup, and majourity of portable Hard Disk comes with backup software also. Have at least 2 copies of your data at any one time, this is what I often advise. Data recovery comes with a high price, A data recovery Job can range anthing from S$ 300.00 to 4K or more depending on how damaged is the Hard Disk. So spending some time doing backup is always better than visiting a Data Recovery Center.
Isn’t this the same as in taking care of your health is definitely much better than falling sick and visiting a Doctor. Well, I have been telling my clients this for years, but then, most of the will say correct, but then never do any backup. Like what people normally do, turn a deaf ear to Doctor’s advise and leave the medicine aside.
I hope that all of you really make an effort to do data backup.
It’s just a simple procedure and just do it for your own sake. Because Nobody knows when your Hard Disk will fail you.
